It's Saturday - 812

First things first, it's another hot day out there today for us.  Yesterday was one of those "record" days, but luckily it was my scheduled gym workout.  I did get there early, and had some extra time at the end, so I put in 3 easy miles on the bike.

Today I woke up early, and set out for a run.  It was hot, and I was pretty hot after 3 miles, and ready to walk after 4 miles, but "Let me Hear You Scream" came on to begin mile 4.  I'm not a big fan of Ozzy, but I do like this song.  It's hard to not give it a little extra push with the lyrics - "If you're gonna go down: Go loud! Go strong! Go proud! Go on! Go hard or go home!"

And with those lyrics I put it on repeat and ran pretty hard for the last mile.  Let's get moving everybody!

It's hot today - 831

It was really hot this morning, but I was able to run 5 miles. It wasn't a great pace, but I'll take it. With those 5 and a treadmill appearance by Mom we are edging closer and closer to California.

If you've been putting in the miles make sure you let me know! Let's at least get to California soon!

The week ahead

This week I was able to run 24 miles, and I wanted to look ahead to see what I've got planned.

Monday and Friday will be weight workouts, and I'm planning on Tuesday 5, Wednesday 4, Thursday 4, Saturday 5, and Sunday 7. A total of 25, and just one more than this week as I continue to build up slowly. 13 weeks until the half marathon, and I'll be ready!

My weight this week was the same as last, so I guess I've hit a plateau. I ate well most of the time, exercised, and feel good. Seems like this happens every so often, so I'm not worried.

837 - Through Sunday

I've been meaning to update all weekend, but haven't gotten a chance until now. Mondays and Fridays are my day at the gym, and this Friday was no different. I did put in three miles walking Friday, but the bulk of my workout was at the gym. My routine looks something like this:

3 sets of 15 of the following exercises:
Tricep press- 190 pounds
Bicep curls - 110 pounds
Shoulder press - 130
Ab machine (2 different types) 70 & 135
Chest press - 210
Back - 120
Deltoids - 110
Ab twist -95
Pec - 160
Leg extension- 100
Leg curl -100
Leg press -330
Calf raise -300

I think I'm missing one machine, but that's about it.

Saturday was a 4 miles run, and today was my longest run of 7 miles. A little swimming this afternoon, and not a bad weekend overall.

852 - Some catch-up miles

Today was a nice morning here, almost cool when I walked out the door, at least compared to the past few days. I've been mixing it up on my routes, but I went back to the run I did last Thursday, which involves a lot of big, long hills and is 4 miles long. It must have been easier this week, although it didn't feel anything like easy, because I finished it 3 minutes faster.

I added a mile walk, and Lynn sent me some catch up miles as we move closer and closer to California. Remember to send me your miles, whatever way is easiest for you!

888 - Our Progress Continues

Last night I took advantage of the kids requesting to go to the park to take a walk and move us 3 miles closer to our goal.

This morning was a hot one here, but I got dressed and tested out my toe with a quick run, but it hurt too much so I headed off to the Y for a bike ride instead. After going 10 miles on the bike I thought it couldn't hurt to try a quick mile on the treadmill. I started out at 6 mph, and thought that ten miutes wouldnt be bad. For the most part I didn't have any problems, so I tried a second mile. Towards the end of the second mile I was wanting to quit, and Until I Collapse came on my playlist, so I kicked up the speed on the treadmill to 7 mph and knocked off the third mile before cooling down and coming home.

As the beginning of the song says, "sometimes you feel tired and weak, and when you feel weak you feel like you want to give up, but you've got to find that inner strength to get that motivation to not give up and not be a quitter no matter how bad you want to fall flat on your face." Or something very similar. In short, it's mostly mental, so keep pushing!

We are getting closer to California every day, so let's get there!

904 Miles to California

I'll attempt to update more frequently with our progress across the country to California, and we are now down to 904 miles to complete the first half of our journey.

Yesterday I spent a mile walking trying to get the GPS working, then gave up and started to run. When I came across a road I didn't recognize I stopped, got the GPS going, and retraced my steps. I stopped running after 3 miles, then measured my walk at 1 mile, so 8 total yesterday for me.

Among the sights I saw, a groundhog, and a run down Pond View Drive, which coincidentally didn't have a view of any pond. I also got to see a little of the carnival setup in progress.

I ended up breaking my toe in the pool (again) later in the day, so I hope it heels quickly. Today was a strength training day, so I spent most of my time doing weights, three sets of 15 reps. But I had some extra time and put in 3 easy miles on the bike.

The plan for tomorrow is to run, as long as my toe can take it, if not I'll hit the Y and do some bike. Mileage wise the bike is better, but I've officially signed up for the half marathon, so I'd rather run.

Let me know if you are putting in any miles!

Saturday Updates 2085

Yesterday was a weight workout day for me, but with a few minutes to spare I spent a little time on the exercise bike. That plus a 4 miles run puts us at 2085. Let me know if you are logging any miles!

Warrior Dash, Weight, Vacations, Welcome Back, Half Marathons, and Win

Well, it's been a long time on our journey across America, and although I haven't been posting I've at least been moving.  I don't have any mileage from anyone entered, so who knows who is still with me on this trek.  After updating my mileage we now 2077 miles into our 3000 mile journey across the country, with just 923 to get to California, and then of course the 3010 miles to get back across the country.  We'll get there eventually, even if I have to do it all myself, although we won't get there before our self imposed deadline.  But we'll get there.

Lynn and I also completed the Warrior Dash while we were gone, which was a ton of fun, and mud, and I can't wait to do another one!  It was really a great day!

It's almost been a year since I started this journey, coming up 8/1.  Before I left for vacation my weight loss was 101 pounds, which I was pretty happy about.  With two weeks of vacation eating not too great, and not working out as much as normal, then the 4th of July weekend I have been a little scared to get on the scale, but I finally did today, and the .3 weight gain still leaves me at 101 pounds so I'm relieved I didn't go up.  Now if I can get those 10 more pounds before 8/1 I'll really be happy.

And the return home starts half marathon training, with the half marathon in Hershey on 10/16.  I'm excited about it, and I think it'll be a lot of fun.  I'll keep updating on my progress, and hopefully Lynn and Dad are still in it with me!

And that leaves us with the song of the day, which I'm sure nobody else likes besides me, but it gets me moving on my runs.  I'm working on adding some songs to my playlists right now, but Win by DJ Khaled will be on at least one of them.
